The Best Teapot for Making Tea: What You Said
July 23, 2017A fully committed tea drinking friend of mine said, “glass teapots make terrible tea”. I’ve had other friends say, “tea made in a silver teapot is not so good.” Others swear by tea made in glass or silver pots. Some people say that the Brown Betty Teapot is essential for making the best tea.
The Question of Our Time
This leads to one of the pressing questions of our time: what is the best teapot for making and serving tea?
I decided to ask the Bring Back Tea Time Facebook audience their views – and thanks so much for sending your replies! You can see the post here.
Out of the 44 people who responded the answer was overwhelmingly in favour of china or porcelain teapots.
Emilie LaPointe said “Bone China. Something about the sound when the pieces touch.”
Debbie Brodsky said “My grandmother and my mom always used porcelain so that’s what I use. But I do love my china teapot. I think I’ll start using it instead of saving it.”
Most of us do prefer the porcelain or the fine bone china – the shape, the colour and the design – these factors make for a beautiful piece to serve tea from. And tea made in these teapots does taste nice.
Does that mean there is no virtue to glass or silver? Shirley Johnson Richards said “I like the glass because the vibrant colors of black tea can be seen…”
Only one person claimed to own a silver teapot; perhaps the cost involved affected the results to my informal survey?
Thank you everyone for your comments and if you haven’t commented you can still do so here.
In my next newsletter I will be offering my own judgement on this issue!
In the meantime, here are links to a couple of my favorite porcelain teapots here at my Bring Back Tea Time shop:
- The Imari style of this tea pot (which comes with a hot water pot, milk jug and sugar bowl) is very impressive as well as the geometric shape of the teapot.
2. Claridge Chintz Teapot – I love chintz and this teapot is extra special because of its cute little pedestal feet. It too has a special shape and the overall impression is very cheerful!
